Why Crochet the Forget-Me-Not Flower?
Over the past few months, the cute little forget-me-not flower has become an important part of my identity. Whilst working as an activities coordinator in a care setting with the elderly, many of which with dementia, my eyes have been opened and my perspective on age has been shifted.
Dementia and memory loss has awful effects on both those that suffer from it and the people closest to them. The Forget-me-not flower symbolizes memory, love and respect, the tiny blooms represent a promise to remember and keep loved ones in your thoughts. This sweet blue flower is used regularly by The Alzheimer's Society to raise awareness of dementia. I decided to create this simple crochet tutorial as part of a bigger project I will be launching soon as part of Dementia Action Week. Watch this space for updates. Forget-me-not flowers come in many varieties, you will find them most commonly in a cornflower blue or sky blue shade but you can also find them in pale purple, pink and white. Please enjoy making these simple but adorable crochet forget-me-not flowers. You can work the pattern up in any colour and yarn with corresponding hook. The pattern is suitable for experienced beginners or anyone looking for a Spring project. I hope you find joy when making these wonderful flowers. Materials & Equipment
